The Gryphon School is proud to have a long history with Oriel Architecture. Paul and his team have always demonstrated a highly professional approach whilst ensuring the school receives a personal service which is underpinned by transparency and integrity at all times. The school has recently appointed Oriel Architecture as lead architect on large projects which include an extension to the school café, conversion of squash courts into classrooms, extension of Modern Foreign Languages Department, and the design of a new classroom block. Paul has also been invaluable to the school in his undoubted ability to work seamlessly with building contractors, engineers, surveyors, planners, and professional building consultants. I have (without hesitation) recommended Oriel Architecture to my peers who work in business management roles within other large schools.

We used Oriel Architecture to help us design the new extension we were hoping to build. As we lived in a Grade II listed building, we presumed that it would not be straightforward. Paul visited us and gave us some ideas, he then met with the conservation officer and got us through the planning procedure without any hiccups at all, which was fabulous. The challenge was that we wanted a contemporary design for the extension, and once the conservation officer was convinced, we started work and we are delighted with the end result which has transformed our old dreary kitchen into an airy and light space with a garden room. I would highly recommend Oriel Architecture as they were professional and helpful throughout the process.

My wife and I have lived in Eastfield House, North Perrott for 11 years and during that period I had written several times to the SSDC Planning Officer asking for advice about the possibility of getting planning permission for a retirement bungalow somewhere on our 4 acres of land. Each time I was told that permission would be very unlikely because we are next door to a Grade 2 listed cottage and in any case no further development was possible in North Perrott. I then approached Helen and Paul Ferdinand (Oriel Architecture) in 2016 and after a site visit they gave me very helpful advice and said that they thought it might be possible to obtain Outline Planning Permission on a site next to our house. We went ahead with their suggestions and although the North Perrott Parish Council opposed the development, Outline Planning permission has now been granted by the SSDC. My wife and I have found Helen and Paul to be extremely helpful and pleasant people and their fees are very reasonable. The application was submitted in a very professional way and dealt with many points which I had not foreseen in my previous letters to the Planning Officer. I can strongly recommend them.
Professor B, North Perrott
Paul Ferdinand was recommended to us to carry out detailed drawings of our newly acquired listed farmhouse. He did this very professionally and accurately, and structural engineers and historians alike have commented on the quality and attention to detail of his work. He takes a genuine interest in his work, communicates well, and listens and responds to client needs. Following this initial work, we instructed Paul to prepare plans for the conversion of an attached hay barn into a much-needed family bathroom, dining room and bedroom. The plans were very carefully considered, as there were many obstacles to overcome as well as meeting the stringent requirements of being a Grade 2 Listed Building. The subsequent building regs drawings were approved with NO amendments, and our builder and joiner have both commented on the clarity and accuracy of these. Paul is always willing to take questions, carry out site visits and ably assisted by his wife Helen, provide fair and true costings for the work. Our building work is now underway and looking good. We have already recommended Oriel Architecture to friends and colleagues and will always return to them if we have architectural work in the future.

We have used Oriel Architecture on two occasions, the first for a house extension and the second to obtain planning permission for a piece of land. In both cases we were impressed by the attention to detail and the imaginative solutions to apparently intractable problems. For the house extension the attention to detail went as far as specifying the type and bonding of the bricks to ensure that the extension blended in well with the original building. In the case of the planning permission for the land a requirement from the Environment Agency was skillfully woven into the overall design. We have been very pleased with their service and would use them again without hesitation

The work concerned the conversion of a Victorian stable block adjoining a Grade 2* listed rectory. Having tried two other local architectural technicians, neither of whom were able to come up with a suitable scheme, we asked Paul to draw up a scheme and then obtain the necessary listed building consent. He immediately understood what we were looking for and produced an excellent scheme. However, this was not immediately accepted by the planners, but thanks to Paul’s patient and professional approach, he managed to get all our original proposals accepted. The works are now completed and we are delighted with the final result.
